Childrens Museum of Manhattan

A Museum that's like an Indoor Playground!

BOOK ACCOMMODATION

New York Accommodation

Childrens Museum of Manhattan is a museum that spreads across five levels. It’s huge, and whilst it is a ‘museum’ one parent described it as an ‘indoor playground for kids to have fun and learn at the same time’.

They have many different exhibitions aimed at a variety of ages, and for those that may go back to New York on more than one occasion the exhibitions are continually changing offering new experiences for the children.

The aim of the Childrens Museum of Manhattan is “to remove barriers that keep children from accessing the rich educational resource a museum can offer”.

At the museum the exhibits and programs allow the kids to gain from an emotional, physical and social aspect without even knowing it!

The museums key focuses are:

Early Childhood,

Healthy Lifestyles

Creativity, and

World Cultures

So how do they do all of this?

They have unique programs that incorporate the topics listed above, they involve local artists, dances and musicians to help them in their plight.

For example, they have an area dedicated to children aged 3 years and under called “Baby Babble”, here you can read with your child, or they may prefer to investigate the playhouse or other settings designed especially for kids that are still crawling.

Another example is “Body Matters”, this is a computer game available for kids to play, it is based on the human digestive track and involves fighting against germs. Who’d have thought something so educational could be such fun!

Of course it’s up to you how long you spend at the museum and how fast or slowly you work your way through.

Whilst you can participate with your kids in the numerous activities there are also loads of staff available to entice the kids to investigate many of the activities around, ensuring that something that might seem a bit overwhelming is not ignored.

The Childrens Museum of Manhattan is located in the Upper West Side, 212 W 83rd Street, New York, NY 10024

Check out their website for information regarding opening times and entrance fees, this is also a great way to find out what latest exhibitions are available.

But whichever way you look at it, it’s sure to be a fun, yet educational day out for the whole family.
