Deckchair Cinema Darwin

BOOK ACCOMMODATION

Darwin Accommodation

The Deckchair Cinema Darwin is a cinema set in the outdoors, on the edge of the Darwin Harbour.

It’s run by the Darwin Film Society and as a result often screens movies that might otherwise not be available to the general public.

Like its name states it’s a cinema made up of deck chairs. You are welcome to bring along your own picnic or purchase something from their kiosk, however note, if you are planning on having a few alcoholic drinks, these must be purchased from the kiosk, no BYO alcohol allowed. The cinema operates from April through to November, which is Darwin’s dry season. The box office and kiosk open at 6.30pm each night allowing you to soak up the atmosphere of the cinema and surrounding harbour, with movies starting at 7.30pm.

On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays the cinema will screen a double feature; however tickets do cost a little extra on these nights. Tickets vary from $9 - $20.

There are approximately 250 deck chairs available as well as 100 straight backed seats.

The cinema prides itself in providing a quality range of movies, from family classics to foreign films.

So where exactly is it?

The Deckchair Cinema is located at the end of Jervois Road, off Kitchener Drive in the Wharf Precinct. It’s easy to get to via the walkway from the Esplanade.

What about comfort?

You are welcome to bring your own cushions or blankets to help make yourself comfortable. And don’t forget to protect yourself from the mosquitos.

Whilst repellent is great, you are encouraged by the locals to wear long pants and long sleeves for maximum comfort.
