Ski Resorts Australia

Whilst Australia is not known predominately for its slopes and ski season in comparison to some countries, there are still a number of great Ski Resorts Australia has to offer.

VICTORIA

Mt Hotham

Mt Hotham is located in Victoria amongst the Alps National Park. The village is just below the summit.

You can get there via the Great Alpine Road which runs between Wangaratta in North East Victoria and Bairnsdale in South East Victoria.

Falls Creek

Falls Creek is an alpine resort located above the Kiewa Valley in North East Victoria, near the Bogong High Plains.

To get there you need to travel from Mt Beauty up the Bogong High Plains Road.

It’s about 4 ½ hours drive from Melbourne.

Mt Buller

Mt Buller is considered the easiest and most convenient of all the alpine resorts to get to.

It is only approximately 3 hours drive from Melbourne, heading north east toward Mansfield.

If travelling from Melbourne you can get to Mt Buller via the Hume Highway or the Maroondah Highway.

Ski Resorts Australia

Mt Baw Baw

Mt Baw Baw is the closest ski resort to Melbourne.

It is an alpine resort situated on the edge of the Baw Baw Plateau with views across Gippsland. It is very easy to get to via the Princes Hwy.

It is best known for it’s cross country skiing facilities, however also offers downhill options too.

Mt Buffalo

Mt Buffalo is approximately 320km north east of Melbourne and is accessible via the Hume Hwy and the Great Alpine Road.

It is considered the perfect location for beginners or those with little experience, as the slopes are easy to navigate compared to other mountains.

NEW SOUTH WALES

Thredbo

Thredbo is located approximately half way between Melbourne and Sydney, approximately 6 hours drive either way.

From Sydney you follow Eastern Distributor and from Melbourne you follow the Kosciuszko Alpine Way heading toward Jindabyne.

Thredbo has terrain suitable for beginners through to the advanced skiers.

Perisher

Perisher is located in the mountains of NSW and is approximately 5 – 6 hours drive from Sydney.

You get to Perisher via Kosciuszko Road via Jindabyne.

With 7 mountain peaks, and approximately 22% for beginners and 60% for intermediate skiers, you’re sure to amuse the whole family regardless of their level and experience.

Selwyn Snowfields

Selwyn Snowfields is located only 2.5 hours drive south of Canberra.

Selwyn Snowfields isn't a part of ski resorts Australia as it doesn’t house any accommodation facilities however most families choose to stay at Adaminaby and Talbingo which is approximately ½ hour away from the slopes.

However they do have all the other usual facilities including ski hire, café facilities and ski school.
